ADMISSION WAHALA – Another life phase

It’s another major milestone season for our first daughter – transitioning from Primary to Secondary School. So last week, she wrote yet another secondary school entrance examination that lasted for 5 hours! Ordinarily, it should have been a stressful day for us all, but we turned it into a memorable one.

I honestly think there should be a community of mothers with children sitting for entrance examinations into secondary schools to offer support and guidance through this process.

I did not envisage the process of deciding on a secondary school and eventually getting admission for my daughter will be stressful and one heck of an emotional roller-coaster. #itissomethingtalkabout

If you are at this phase of life ‘raise ya hands in da air’ 😄 #enoeasy

The whole process of researching for schools with quality education in my locality to defending the choice of schools and mode of schooling to my home panel, plus the prospective student to preparing for the exams to anxiously awaiting results, then having to repeat the cycle because the child didn’t meet the initial cut-off mark for the school of choice isn’t easy.

I must confess that I broke down in tears at some point. Please don’t ask WHY “mbok”! I guess tears just love rolling down my face sometimes😁.

The months of rigorously preparing for the exams to the eventual day of writing to the trepidation of waiting to see the results and then interviews before being offered admission is emotionally, psychologically, and intellectually tasking.

I honestly expected the process to be easy, especially after spending months visiting different schools and comparing notes with parents that had gone before me. Then screening our initial list of 5 schools to 3 while analyzing all the pros and cons of choosing a boarding over a day school and vice versa; we felt prepared. However, the process of reaching a final decision wasn’t as easy as envisaged.

Can’t this phase of life just be simple?

After going through all these hassles, some kids may still be required to write up to 4 external examinations depending on the school they currently attend for the singular reason of giving them better opportunities and multiple options. Ummh! I like growing up back in my days where life was simpler… I think OO!

So I can’t wait for this phase to pass.

Even though I know that I will pass through this ‘route’ again when my younger kids come off age and when they graduate from one level of education to another. I bet I will be stronger, knowledgeable, and more psychologically ready by then.

Life and its phases eeeh.

Just stay happy in whatever phase you find yourself, do the things that give you joy, and heed the words of King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 11:9 (MSG)

You who are young, make the most of your youth. Relish your youthful vigor. Follow the impulses of your heart. If something looks good to you, pursue it. But know also that not just anything goes; You have to answer to God for every last bit of it.
