CREDIBILITY – THE AGBERO’S ANGLE

I love blogging but some topics and areas are not my ‘thing’. So when events occur in such areas, I only air my opinion to friends and associates.
I beheld a sight yesterday and got encouraged to pen down my thoughts. At a popular bus stop at Isolo, Lagos, an ‘agbero’ (A Youruba slang for area boys) was at his usual spot extorting cash from reluctant bus conductors, when two police officers swept in on him from behind. The two officers jacked him up with his trousers and in their characteristic manner of arrest, began dragging him to their waiting van. His offence, we already know is the extortion! (I guess).
The hilarious part of this whole episode was the speed this agbero stuffed the cash he was holding into his pant (not boxers or trouser) *lol*.  His captors were busy dragging him, unconscious of the act (stuffing the cash into his pant) and to the amusement of on looker. Honestly, the whole act happened so fast that the agbero’s best option to hide the day’s ‘gain’ was his pant. The sight was really funny, I still giggle whenever I reminiscence.
The question is, “why was he in such a haste to hide his wages for the day?
This brings the word ‘credibility’ to mind. How credible are our law enforcement agents?
For those of us who do not reside in Lagos – the center of excellence, let me explain better. In our dear land of no owner, some years back agberos were given rights and even uniforms to rightfully collect tolls from operators of commercial buses. The purpose and what it is used for is best known to them!
These agberos position themselves at all bus stops imposing all manners of levies and dues on commercial transporters. Refusal or delay in payment of these toll often leads to fights, quarrels, smashed side mirrors or windscreen, forcibly removal of screen wipers or any parts of the moving bus. It is almost like the proverbial – ‘monkey dey work baboon dey chop’ case.
Now the crux of the gist; why will the ‘terror’ of commercial transporters be afraid of another ‘terror’ of our roads (you understand what I mean)? If you don’t understand, pray that a police officer stops you to ask for car documents.
Awaiting your comments.

I can vividly remember what happened last week Thursday when the uniformed terrors aka Police caught us along Mile 2 while my driver was trying to avoid d traffic on that axis. We had to pay a fine of N1000 before they could let us go. All of them na Agbero; uniformed or non-uniformed
