MALE OR FEMALE…THEY ARE ALL GIFTS FROM ABOVE 11

After waiting for 40 weeks and the baby did not come despite the strong contractions Tricia have been having, she drove herself to the hospital for the labour to be induced. She went there on February 13th and the process was initiated, labour was long and hard and finally a princess arrived on February 14th as Dr. Mark wished. Tricia stared long and hard at the baby “Joy”, whom the nurse placed in the cot beside her; she had mixed feelings. She wasn’t sure what her expectation was? May be she still expected a boy….. She wondered whom the baby looked like; she was fragile, beautiful with a heavenly peace on her face. She dosed off with those thoughts on her mind.

Baby “Joy’s” cry for food woke Tricia from her deserved rest from a hard labour, she picked her baby from the cot beside her bed and began breast feeding, the gentle but firm tug of the baby’s mouth on her nipples arose a feeling of love and possessiveness and the feeling of uncertainty gradually melted away. Tricia stared intently as baby ”Joy” sucked, she now noticed her bright eyes, firm nose, beautiful lips and the determined look on her face; at that instance Tricia knew that this baby was worth MORE THAN 10 SONS TO HER!

As the week turned into months, baby “Joy” proved to be the best gift Tricia could ever request for herself (if she had the option) she slept all through the night, just woke to feed and sleep back. There was no cry; the neighbors would swear that no baby existed in their apartment. At two months when she could coo and smile, she had the best toothless smile one could ever imagine, a smile that could win the love and heart of any one. Baby “Joy” is simply priceless in Tricia’s life.

Every time she mentioned she had two daughters, she still heard those comments she detests “you are not a strong woman” or “try for a boy” or a facial expression that spoke negatively louder than words. She silently wondered if she was responsible for the sex of her babies or even needed to prove her strength to any one by giving birth of a boy! What more blessing can she desire with having a peaceful baby as “Joy” in her life?

In this part of the world, a baby’s gender is greatly celebrated, female  babies are received with mixed feeling, the mothers are regarded as less fortunate women. These feelings are gradually transferred to the girl child consciously and unconsciously who go through life trying to prove (to one but herself) that she can be superior.

Let’s celebrate our girl child! For without them there will be no mothers for tomorrow!

Thank you for this……….I'm a woman and I love it. In the next world, I'll tell God; 'please and please, you're not sending me to earth if i'm not a girl'.
