FAMILY INSPIRATIONAL LIFE Motherhood

ONLY A MOM!

Mummy, mom, mama, mami, mma, nne, or ma are all
variations of the word mummy, a referral or name of endearment for a birth or
surrogate mother, an elderly woman or any woman who plays the role of a mother
over another. The only creation with the unmatched ability to turn an abode into
a warm, loving and inviting home. Only a mom has the supernatural ability to nurture,
love and watch over her own with fierceness. She sees success where failure is glaring;
never gives up on her child and steps on every challenge to bring out the best.
Only a mom can be tireless in her sacrifice and generous with her forgiveness. It
is only her watchful eye that sees beyond our pretentious physical expression. “Talk
to me” she would say when we respond with “mom am fine” or “mom it is nothing!”
Only a mother sees the heaviest of heart and the crease of unspoken worries.

A mother clearly sees and understands life’s
little blessings; her face lit up with joy at the first kick of a child in pregnancy,
she laughs at the toothless smile of a baby and is content at watching a child sleeping
peacefully.  Only a mom would scream at
the spout of a first tooth, she alone converses meaningfully in “baby talks’
and dances for joy when the staggering and wobbling steps of a toddler graduate
into firm steps. Only a mom would cry on the first day at school and beam with
pride at a high school graduation!

Only a mom disciplines with one hand and hugs the
erring child in love with the other hand. Her heart bleeds a thousand times
when her child(ren) hurt in physical or emotional pains. Oh! What comforting
anchor and rock of respite she provides at such times. She has a heart so big
and accommodating that without the bat of an eyelid she willingly sacrifices
her comfort for her own! She looks fragile yet strong enough to weather in beautiful
frame every storm life brings her way. Only a mom watches and warns her own of “wolf”
friends in sheep’s clothing and advises on a symbiotic friendship. What
blessings God bestowed on humanity when he gave us mothers.

And when the children they birth have grown and
birth a generation or two, they still remain mothers; even in variations of
grannies! They also give up themselves and time to make the journey easy for
the new mothers. And when age prevails upon their strength, they sit in prayer
over our every step and deed.

When they leave us in death, their words of
love, wisdom and rebuke forever echoes in our heart and mind. Their love
forever wrapping us in warmth only remembrance can bring!

The world is a better place because of mothers.

I celebrate with all mothers today and dedicate
this poem by Helen Steiner Rice to you.

The dearest gifts that heaven holds,
The very finest, too,

Were made into one pattern
That was perfect, sweet, and true;

The Angels smiled, well-pleased, and said:
“Compared to all the others,

This pattern is so wonderful
Let’s use it just for Mothers!”

And through the years, a Mother
Has been all that’s sweet and good

For there’s one bit of God and love,
In all true Motherhood.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!
