childhood DISCIPLINE slap

THE 3D EFFECT SLAP.

Nigerian Mums produce the best range of slaps-slaps that make you think you were adopted and gives you the 3D effect-Deaf, Dumb and Daft.

I saw the quote above on a friend’s BBM profile and it got me laughing so hard that I had tears in my eyes. Truth is that DP (display) message evoked some childhood memories. Good memories of mummy welding the ‘rod’ called a ‘hand, which often leaves me with a resounding effect on the back, butt or wherever it was applied. This slap was the fastest means by which an immediate wrong was corrected or a stubborn trait was destroyed before it rared its ugly head.

I am glad to be a Nigerian, for it is only in this land that such quick measure can be used to correct an erring child. The effect is usually immediate, and the lesson(s) are quickly imbibed. It also attracts  no consequence on the parent, guide or teacher. No cops or child welfare officer charging one for ‘child abuse or harassment’.

I am no advocate of child abuse or its likes but I will always appreciate the swiftness of my mum’s plam whose slaps leads directly to the part of correction. The memory of that 3D effect is usually resounding and always prevent a repeat performance.

I know that this slap can often lead to abuse. I will offer some esteemed opinion on child discipline in my next post.

For today, I will love to read about your ‘3D’ experience. Please share!

Happy sunday and have a great week.

The 'slap' has been perfected and handed down several generations of nigerian women.. It is a veritable tool for erring toddlers and even teenagers. The execution is usually swift and its purpose not always clear….sometimes I just feel the slap is more to irritate than actually punish….
