THIS LEARNING CONTINUES…..

Were you one of those that were taught to pronounce the alphabets as A, B, C D…? If your answer is affirmative, then you are ‘ancient’ like me. Even though I did enjoy learning it that way, the surprise that waited for me in the future (like it’s usually said) and for most of us was pronunciation. A good number of us often pronounced words the way we pronounced our letters. (Don’t analyze! I know it’s true and am right! *winks*)

Today, schools have taken a better route by teaching our kids to pronounce words as they sound. In fact, most schools have made this phonetics the first foundation to learning alphabet. The pronunciation of the alphabet is then taught at a later age. Ask a school age kid to read out the alphabet for you – U sef go bow! (only ask kids from ‘butter’ school o). This could be one of the reasons one of my friends insisted that her children must enroll in a ‘Montessori’ school. “Never mind, just kidding”.

Initially, when I tried teaching my daughter to pronounce alphabets, I started off as I was taught! The little girl would always correct me with the right sound for each alphabet. With the beginning of a new school year and the loads of assignment, this ‘pronunciation thing’ has refused to stick. So make funky mama no disgrace herself”, I’ve bought CDs that teach the right phonetic sound for the alphabet and am learning.  No shy shy, no shame shame! The day you stop learning you die o! Truthfully, I still get confused at some of this phonetics! I probably need a lesson teacher! *Laughing*

I really want to ask if anyone noticed how boring they sound? “A-aa, b – beh, c- k, etc {pronouncing those alphabet by sounds) abi is it my heart or head that does not want to adhere to the change? *Sighs*.

Hmm!! I love my A,B,C, D…… way jor!
