The sight of my 20 months old trying unsuccessfully to wiggle out of the tight
embrace of his 6 years old sister always gets me cracking with laughter. I
can perceive the unsaid words of my daughter by her determined stance of
“I must grab you by all means” and the struggling toddler screaming
loudly through his unclear words “let go of me”. This struggle is
usually a sight to behold and the bond between these two is beyond my understanding (story for another
day).

Didi, my 6 years old is the first name Seddie mutters when he calls out for a
playmate. This call is usually responded to with a happy squeal and a
playful leap. This reaction from Didi ignites a deep throaty laughter
in him, leading to the eye twinkling “I want more” look from
him. In spite of this bond, my 20 months wants to establish his independence as
a grown ‘baby’ without any tight embrace or any attempt at lifting him
without his consent. His will is resilient
and his determination is strong. He is a ‘one man squad’, who isn’t afraid of
challenging his older siblings, his age notwithstanding.

Ain’t we grateful that God doesn’t grab us this way when he wants us to do his will?
Lol! Knowing that His name is the first word on our lips when we are happy, sad
or in trouble? This same name also punctuates all the ‘ups’ and ‘downs of
our daily lives. If God grabs us to do His bidding like Didi does to
Seddi, I can only imagine the outcome of such encounter.

Isn’t it amazing the way God gives us freedom to make our choices even when His will
is

clearly communicated and impressed upon our hearts. God allows us err in our
choices thus causing us to learn through the process of personal experience and
other occurrences in our lives.
Our best encounters happens when we are totally reliant on God, remember the story
of Elijah and his servant who was petrified at the number of soldiers that
surrounded them in the book of 2 Kings 6 v 15. His master was however calmbecause he knew the company of God’s army that surrounded him (2 Kings 6 v 17).

Total reliance and confidence in God leads us into this blessed assurance.

May God help us to be completely reliant on Him and may our eyes be open see the
power that we have been freely given.
