Today, my 3 year old fell and hit his forehead on the TV stand in the sitting room.
I heard the loud crashing sound from my room, rushed out to find him crying with blood trickling down his face, and mixed with tears. The sisters screamed at the sight, while I was momentarily frozen.
My tummy churned at the sight of the blood oozing from his eyelid while my eyes were heavy with unshed tears. I was so frightened that I couldn’t touch him for some seconds, but for my hubby who rushed to pick him up. I was simply shaken and the many “what if” scenarios that flashed before my mind added to my anxiety.
“What happened?” Was the question I asked the stunned sisters repeatedly?
“He kept jumping up and down, I asked him to stop but he wouldn’t listen” came the fearful response from the eldest of the trio.
We administered first aid and the rest became our testimony! Not history! for the outcome would have been worst.
The things parents have to deal with this period are a lot more than keeping active children engaged or schooled. Keeping them safe from domestic accident(s) and squabbles with siblings are on top of the list. (LOOK OUT FOR MY NEXT POST ON FAMILY VALUES)

Rospa.com recommends the following safety tips to way curb its frequent occurrence –
- Children should be supervised at all times
- Keep floors free of toys and obstructions that can be tripped over on
- Fit safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs
- Never leave tripping hazards on the stairs
- Stairs should always be well lit
- Fit child resistant window restrictors but make sure you can get out easily in an emergency
- Do not put anything under the window that can be climbed on
- Furniture and tall kitchen appliance, at risk from being pulled over, should be secured to the wall.
